Love Dwells Here

Today marks the one year anniversary of the move into our very own house, here in the little town of Shelton.
We waited and prayed and prayed and waited for it for almost two years.

Today, I am filled to the brim with gratitude for this home sweet home.
As I walk from room to room, feeling a swell of pride for the comfortable and decorated spaces, my thoughts turn to those who do not have what I own.

Those people are not vague strangers in some far off land.
Those people are my friends, whose house just burned to the ground while the husband stood watching in helpless horror.
I thank my God that no one was hurt. Because, really, that's all that matters.

I am reminded of the verse that says:
"Do not store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be." {Matthew 6:19-21}

What matters most are the relationships being built within our homes.
When I stand before The One, I will be held accountable for how I cared (or didn't) for those people (little and big).

So, today, I ask for kind words, gentle hands, smiling eyes, and a love that covers a multitude of sins.

well said. No one chooses to lose everything, but your friends are fortunate that no lives were lost.

Very true... we are responsible for the relationships we build. Thank you for the sweet reminder. And what a darling house you have!
